While it might be famed for its beaches and long summers, winter in Perth still offers many fun things to entertain the whole family.

1. Unwind at endota spa

Joondalup’s large inflatable playground Inflatable World is the ideal spot to take the kids on a rainy day during the school holidays. Kids and adults can get in on the fun, bounce to their heart’s content for two hours, and then fuel up at the on-site cafe.
Inflatable World is open every Sunday during the school term and six days a week during the school holidays, but check their Facebook page for updated opening hours.

4. Hike to Perth’s waterfalls
The best time to explore Perth’s waterfalls is after a rainy week when the brooks and waterfalls are flowing.
There are a few great hikes that will take you right past these waterfalls. Hop in the car and head east to the Swan Valley and Perth Hills to explore Bells Rapids across the Swan River, Lesmurdie Falls and Noble Falls.
South of the city, you will find Kitty’s Gorge and Serpentine Falls in the Serpentine National Park.

5. Hit the shops
A great way to escape the rain is inside a shopping centre like Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City or Karrinyup Shopping Centre. The latter underwent an $800 million redevelopment in 2021 and is home to numerous shops, restaurants, bars and a large HOYTS cinema, which even sports an immersive experience called HOYTS D-BOX.

6. Visit the Joondalup Artisan Markets
If you’re staying in Joondalup when the Joondalup Artisan Markets are running, make sure you pop down and browse the extensive collection of homemade jewellery, clothing, art, woodwork and pottery made by locals. The lively indoor market also has music and food trucks.

7. Explore the Perth Cultural Centre
Located in between Northbridge and the CBD is the Perth Cultural Centre, a precinct home to the city’s impressive museum – WA Museum Boola Bardip – as well as the Art Gallery of WA (AGWA), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) and the State Theatre Centre of WA.
You could spend a rainy afternoon admiring art pieces, brushing up on WA’s fascinating history or catching a live show.

8. Go ice skating

9. Spend an afternoon at Scitech
While suitable for all ages, the kids will especially get a kick out of Scitech, a massive interactive science and technology centre that hosts workshops and live science shows.
Scitech’s planetarium is especially impressive; the 180-degree dome is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and transports you into the Milky Way, all while you relax in reclinable seats.

10. Have lunch at a Perth brewery
There’s nothing like a brewery lunch on a wintery day. Luckily, Perth has a few inner-city breweries to spend an afternoon at.

If you’re happy to venture out of the city, the Swan Valley has many family-friendly breweries, including Valley Social, Baskerville Tavern, and Bailey Brewing Co.
