10 Things To Do in Perth During Winter

While it might be famed for its beaches and long summers, winter in Perth still offers many fun things to entertain the whole family.

Don’t let a rainy day in Joondalup stop you from getting out and exploring this vibrant city. Check out our guide to the best things to do while holidaying in Perth during the winter months.

1. Unwind at endota spa

Did you know Joondalup Resort has an on-site spa? endota spa offers an array of treatments, including relaxing massages, nourishing facials and body scrubs. It’s the perfect place to escape the rain and indulge in some well-deserved ‘me time’.

2. Get competitive with bowling, mini golf and arcade games

For competitive fun for all ages and group sizes, head to Holey Moley for mini golf, Strike for 10-pin bowling and B. Lucky and Sons or Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq for arcade games.

Karrinyup Shopping Centre is home to a couple of these activities under one roof; alternatively, you can head to the Forrest Chase precinct in the CBD to play both bowling and retro arcade games (there are cocktail bars for the adults!).

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 20 minutes by car
  • Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by public transport

3. Bounce over to Inflatable World

Joondalup’s large inflatable playground Inflatable World is the ideal spot to take the kids on a rainy day during the school holidays. Kids and adults can get in on the fun, bounce to their heart’s content for two hours, and then fuel up at the on-site cafe.

Inflatable World is open every Sunday during the school term and six days a week during the school holidays, but check their Facebook page for updated opening hours.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 5 minutes by car
  • Approximately 30 minutes by public transport

4. Hike to Perth’s waterfalls

The best time to explore Perth’s waterfalls is after a rainy week when the brooks and waterfalls are flowing.

There are a few great hikes that will take you right past these waterfalls. Hop in the car and head east to the Swan Valley and Perth Hills to explore Bells Rapids across the Swan River, Lesmurdie Falls and Noble Falls.

South of the city, you will find Kitty’s Gorge and Serpentine Falls in the Serpentine National Park.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 35 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by car

5. Hit the shops

A great way to escape the rain is inside a shopping centre like Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City or Karrinyup Shopping Centre. The latter underwent an $800 million redevelopment in 2021 and is home to numerous shops, restaurants, bars and a large HOYTS cinema, which even sports an immersive experience called HOYTS D-BOX.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 5 minutes to 20 minutes by car
  • Approximately 25 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by public transport

6. Visit the Joondalup Artisan Markets

If you’re staying in Joondalup when the Joondalup Artisan Markets are running, make sure you pop down and browse the extensive collection of homemade jewellery, clothing, art, woodwork and pottery made by locals. The lively indoor market also has music and food trucks.

Check their Facebook for upcoming market dates.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 5 minutes
  • Approximately 20 minutes by public transport

7. Explore the Perth Cultural Centre

Located in between Northbridge and the CBD is the Perth Cultural Centre, a precinct home to the city’s impressive museum – WA Museum Boola Bardip – as well as the Art Gallery of WA (AGWA), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) and the State Theatre Centre of WA.

You could spend a rainy afternoon admiring art pieces, brushing up on WA’s fascinating history or catching a live show.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 30 minutes by car
  • Approximately 1 hour by public transport

8. Go ice skating

Winter is the best time to put on some skates and try ice skating. Perth Ice Arena is a large indoor ice rink that hosts many public skating sessions per week, plus fun disco nights with DJs and lights. The timetables are the website will provide you with the latest details.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 25 minutes by car
  • Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by public transport

9. Spend an afternoon at Scitech

While suitable for all ages, the kids will especially get a kick out of Scitech, a massive interactive science and technology centre that hosts workshops and live science shows.

Scitech’s planetarium is especially impressive; the 180-degree dome is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and transports you into the Milky Way, all while you relax in reclinable seats.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 25 minutes by car
  • Approximately 1 hour by public transport

10. Have lunch at a Perth brewery

There’s nothing like a brewery lunch on a wintery day. Luckily, Perth has a few inner-city breweries to spend an afternoon at.

Make sure you head to Pirate Life Perth, The Seasonal Brewing Co., Boston Brewing Co, Little Creatures, Gage Roads Freo or Northbridge Brewing Co.

If you’re happy to venture out of the city, the Swan Valley has many family-friendly breweries, including Valley Social, Baskerville Tavern, and Bailey Brewing Co.

To get there from the resort:

  • Approximately 25 minutes to 50 minutes by car
  • Approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes by public transport

See, there’s a lot that can be done during winter in Perth! After all of that exploring, you can retreat back to Joondalup Resort to unwind and relax.
